MEET THE MAN BEHIND THE STICKS
WAYNE HENDERSON
This NYC artist began playing the drums at the age of 8. He then moved to the NYC area where he began playing in the The Garden of Prayer Church under the direction of Bishop William James Robinson in Bronx, NY. His jazz inspiration began the very first time he heard the great drummer Grady Tate who performed with Jimmy Smith. He was also impressed with the big band swing style of Buddy Rich, Count Basie's Orchestra and Earth, Wind & Fire.
Over the next four decades Henderson has performed at Birdland, Smoke Jazz Club, Showman's, BB Kings, The Roxy Hotel, Village Gate, The Jazz Forum, NYU, Mezzrow, Churchill Grounds, Zinc Bar, Swing 46, Avery Fisher Hall, Maureen's Jazz Cellar, Smalls and Chelsea Table & Stage.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING
ABOUT THE WAYNE HENDERSON EXPERIENCE

Bill Easley, saxophonist
A lot of drummers "keep time" which is an oxymoron. You can't keep time?
Wayne plays time!

Alton Steve Gibson III
Fine all around drummer. I enjoy watching his technique on the skins and as a drummer myself he keeps me inspired to play the jazz licks.

John Colianni, jazz pianist
Wayne Henderson is well-known for his superior technique on drums, which he combines with a driving, infectious, rhythmic pulse. He's musically versatile, but still maintains an identifiable sound and style. A top rank player.
